About Continuous Flow Microchannel

Continuous Flow Microchannel is a chemical engineering system. It is based on microreactor technology, and it can control chemical reaction, mixing, mass and heat transfer through microscale channels with a higher efficiency. This system is widely used in the fields of chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, materials science, etc.

  • Microchannel:  It’s a channel with dimensions in the micron range (usually 10 to 1000 microns) through which a fluid flows.
  • Continuous Flow: Reactants flow through microchannels in a continuous flow, as opposed to a traditional batch reaction.
  • Microreactor: It’s a reaction device consisting of multiple microchannels, usually integrated into a chip or modular device.

Continuous Flow Microchannel Main Features

High Specific Surface Area:  The small size and large specific surface area of the microchannels are conducive to efficient mass and heat transfer.
Precise control:  the reaction conditions (e.g. temperature, pressure, flow rate) can be precisely regulated to improve the selectivity and efficiency of the reaction.
Rapid mixing: In the microchannel, the fluid is mainly laminar flow, but rapid mixing can be realized by special design (such as curved channels or obstacles).
Safety and environmental protection: small reaction volume reduces storage of hazardous chemicals and lowers safety risks.
Scalability: Scale-up is achieved by parallelizing multiple microchannels (“digital scale-up”) instead of the traditional “volumetric scale-up”.
