Many types of equipment will generate immense heat in operation, and it will destroy the equipment if there is no protection. Therefore these industries need high-performance materials to protect the equipment. In this post, we will share with you this kind of high-performance material: polyimide and polyimide synthesis.

What is polyimide?

As we wrote above, the polyimide is kind of a high-temperature resistance performance material. The highest resistance temperature is above 400°C. And the long-term use temperature range is at -200~300°C. And also has high insulation performance, dielectric constant 4.0 at 103 Hz, dielectric loss is only 0.004~0.007, and it belongs to F to H class insulation.

The difference polyimide vs polyamide

Although these two words are very similar, their performance is different. Their main difference is between chemical structures. Polyimide monomer structure has the amide (-CONH-) linkages in their polymer backbone, while polyimide has an amide group (-CO-N-OC-) in their polymer backbone. The below image is their main difference.

The polyimide synthesis And Monomer

About the polyimide monomer

Our company Daken Chemical is a professional polyimide monomer manufacturer in China. The polyimide monomer has many different applications, and the market demand for the colorless polyimide monomer, especially in the electrics industry. And at present, the improvement of colorless transparency has gradually shifted from the development of new monomers to the effective coordination of existing monomers, the selection of functional additives, and the advancement of film-forming processes.

What are the applications of polyimide?

The polyimide applications are usually as below:

1.Particle shielding film

The high-purity polyimide coating film is an effective radiation-resistant and particle-resistant shielding material. Coating 50-100 units of radiation shielding layer on the passivation film of the component shell can prevent memory errors caused by the radiation released by trace amounts of uranium and mulberry.

2. Passivation layer and buffer inner coating for microelectronic devices

Polyimide is widely used in the microelectronics industry as a passivation layer and buffer protection layer. PI coating can effectively block electron migration and prevent corrosion. The components protected by the PI layer have a very low leakage current, which can increase the device’s mechanical properties, prevent chemical pollution, and effectively improve the moisture resistance of the components.

3. Interlayer dielectric material for multilayer metal interconnection circuit

Polyimide material is the interlayer dielectric material of the multilayer metal interconnection structure in the multilayer wiring technology. Multilayer wiring technology is the key technology for developing and producing ultra-large-scale, high-density, and high-speed integrated circuits with a three-dimensional crossover structure. The use of multilayer metal interconnects on the chip can significantly reduce the wiring density between devices, reduce the RC time constant and chip footprint, and greatly improve the speed, integration, and reliability of integrated circuits.
